Dr Jayasree Kalathil is a writer and translator based in London. She is the author of the children’s book, The Sackclothman, which has been translated into Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi.

Jayasree’s translation of S. Hareesh’s Moustache won the JCB Prize for Literature in 2020. Her translation of N. Prabhakaran’s Diary of a Malayali Madman won the Crossword Books Jury Award for Indian Language Translation in 2019, and was longlisted for the Mathrubhumi Book of the Year Award. N. Prabhakaran’s Theeyoor Chronicles is her latest translation.

Jayasree received her PhD from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. For the last twenty-five years, she has been a researcher and activist working in mental health, anti-racism and human rights, and has published widely in these areas, including Recovery and Resilience: African, African-Caribbean and South Asian Women’s Stories of Recovering from Mental Distress, and the co-authored textbook Values and Ethics in Mental Health: An Exploration for Practice.

Jayasree will be translating S. Hareesh’s forthcoming untitled novel, represented by A Suitable Agency.
