Deep Mukherjee is a senior journalist, presently associated with The Wire as an Assistant Editor. He has been the Indian Express state correspondent in Rajasthan and has also worked with the Hindustan Times and DNA covering issues of national importance including lynchings by cow vigilantes and the fallout on the livelihood of Meo Muslim dairy farmers; the revision of school textbooks, and farmer suicides. A recipient of a development journalism fellowship awarded by UNICEF, Deep, through his reportage, has highlighted the plight of child labourers working in the lac bangle industry in Jaipur and stone quarries of Kota.
Deep loves travelling and occasionally contributes to literary journals along with writing opinion pieces.
His forthcoming book, jointly authored with Tabeenah Anjum, is Rajasthan: Politics and Power Struggles in India’s Largest State, a clear-sighted comprehensive look at the state’s current politics, its princely legacy, and its socio-political evolution since 1947. It will be published by Pan Macmillan in Autumn 2024.
