Dr. Tabeenah Anjum is a senior print and multimedia journalist, reporting on politics, gender, human rights, migrant rights and issues which impact marginalized communities from Rajasthan and neighbouring states.

She is a regular contributor to Outlook magazine and writes long-form reportage for Quint, Article 14, TOI Plus, The Gaon Connection, BBC, Countercurrents, Caravan, and The Telegraph. She was formerly the Rajasthan bureau in-charge of the Deccan Herald and continues to write opinion pieces for the newspaper.

Born and raised in Kashmir, Tabeenah did her Master’s and PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. She has taught at the University of South Australia, Adelaide and the University of Sakarya, Turkey and has been the co-course director of the Basics of Visual Storytelling course at the FTII, Pune.

She is also a passionate photographer and the recipient of the I & B Ministry’s National Award in Photography (2015) and recipient of the Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II Award (2017). Her photographic artworks have been exhibited in India, Nepal, and South Australia.

Her forthcoming book, jointly authored with Deep Mukherjee, is Rajasthan: Politics and Power Struggles in India’s Largest State, a clear-sighted comprehensive look at the state’s current politics, its princely legacy, and its socio-political evolution since 1947. It will be published by Pan Macmillan in Autumn 2024.
