Tabinda Jalil Burney is a doctor, working in the National Health Service in the UK. She qualified from Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi.
She has translated numerous Urdu short stories into English, which are included in several published anthologies. She has a passion for gardening and baking. Always interested in cookery, she authored a cookbook called How to Feed Your Child (and enjoy it)! which won the Gourmand award for the category of ‘Best in Writing for Childcare’. It was later published in Hindi. Her keen interest in Urdu poetry, her love of cooking, her nostalgia for her family’s food and culture, and an abiding curiosity about the family’s history, inspired Fantastic Feasts Fables and Family, A Culinary Memoir. This is a leisurely, detailed recollection of her magical childhood holidays with her grandparents in Aligarh, and includes her family’s favourite recipes and wonderful stories her grandmother would relate to all the gathered grandchildren. It was published by Penguin Random House in 2024.
