Samit Basu is an Indian writer and filmmaker. He has been writing and publishing for the last two decades, mostly in speculative fiction. His recent novels include The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport, shortlisted for the Locus, Goodreads, and Dragon Awards, and The City Inside, named one of the Best SFF Books of 2022 by The Washington Post and shortlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature in 2020. His debut novel, The Simoqin Prophecies, launched a bestselling fantasy trilogy. His works have been published in the UK and translated into German and Swedish.

In addition to writing, Basu is a film director. He co-wrote and co-directed the Netflix Original House Arrest (2019). He has published short stories in multiple genres for Indian and international anthologies, and has also written a children’s books series in India, comics published internationally, worked in TV, film, and digital media, and has been a journalist, columnist and contributor in print and online for various leading Indian and international media.
